Homework: Complete Graphic Organizer on “I have a Dream” speech. Be sure to identify all of the items/rhetorical devices Dr. king used in his speech.

Tuesday 22:

·      Honors 9 Lunch meeting (Dialectical Journal distribution for A Separate Peace).

Homework:

Prompt:  Write a paper that evaluates the credibility of King’s argument. In your paper critique the relationship between generalizations and evidence. Also answer these questions: What is King’s intent with the speech? How does King’s intent affect the structure and tone of his speech?

o   Begin1st Draft of Paper for Peer review on Friday. Paper due  Sunday by 5 PM  to turnitin.com.

Friday 25th:

Class work:   
·       Peer Review
o   Remember to check that you have: 
1.    Multi-spaced so you can edit
2.    Indent your paragraphs
3.    Check that every paragraph has a topic sentence
4.     Pay close attention to use of transition words.
5.    Capitalize Proper Nouns
6.    Use quotation Marks around Titles
7.    Use third person (he, she, it, they)
8.    Avoid colloquial language  (gonna, wanna, shoulda)
9.    Use descriptive language  (avoid stuff, things, thingies).
10.  No contractions in formal papers
11. BACK IT UP! Back up claims with textual evidence.
12. Direct quotes require quotation mark and crediting of sources in an MLA Format bibliography.  Go to Easybib.com

·      Read  and Annotate “Walking with the Wind” by John Lewis pp. 103-110

·      On separate sheets of Paper (not in book) Do After You Read questions  and complete Allegory Chart on pp.111-113

·      BUY A COMPOSITION BOOK FOR YOUR DIALECTICAL JOURNAL/READERS WRITERS NOTEBOOK.  You will need it for next Thursday for your team to earn full credit!  It will be part of your portfolio so it MUST be kept neatly ( no tear outs or sloppy writing).

Thursday 1st

·      Driving Question:
·      How did economic class, race, gender impact the survival rates on the Titanic?   What impact did knowledge or lack of knowledge about science and engineering have on the sinking of the Titanic?
