How to study the Denotation and Connotation of a word


DENO/CONNOTATION STATION VOCABULARY
   

For each vocabulary word, write a sentence in which the word appears, the word’s part of speech, the parts of the word, its denotation, and positive or negative connotations associated with it. Complete for all words on your vocabulary list!  Use a separate sheet/s of paper. Staple together  when complete and place in class INBOX.



1.  Word:  fragrance
Sentence in which word appears:  The candlemaker chose a pleasing, spicy fragrance for her old friend’s candle.                  
Part of Speech:  noun  
Parts of Word:  fra / grance; from the Latin word “fragrere” meaning “emit a sweet smell”
Denotation: a smell sensed by the olfactory nerve
Connotation (positive) (negative): positive connotation; odor is a related negative connotation
