Allusions-a reference to features of culture that people
share-literature, religion, history, mythology, sports
Anaphora
-repetition of
words at beginning of sentence
Assonance-repetition of similar vowels sounds that are
followed by consonant sounds.
Articulate-Having
or showing the ability to speak fluently and coherently.
Enunciate-Say
or pronounce clearly.
Parallelism-repetition of words, phrases, or sentences that
have the same grammatical structure or that state a similar idea. Parallelism
or parallel structure helps make lines rhythmic and memorable and heightens
their emotional effect.
Metaphor- comparison without like or as
Refrain-a phrase or stanza that is repeated throughout a
work
Speech-
a spoken expression of ideas, opinions, etc., that is made by
someone who is speaking in front of a group of people
Rhythm-musical quality in language produced by
repitition
Rhyme-repitition of accented vowel sound, and all the
sounds following them, in words that are close together in a poem.
Repetition-the
action of repeating something.
ballads-a song that tells a story about love, death,
betrayal ( folk ballads are composed by
unknown singers and passed on for generations. Literary
ballads are composed by known individuals are written down in imitation of the old
folk ballads).

Dramatic
Irony-a reader knows
something the character does not.
